I bought a Red Sonja Phicen! I always buy action figures lying to myself that I´ll use them as models for drawing, but this is the first time I actually did it. I placed the inspirational pictures and the whole process here.

The Ghost Menace
Phicen is the ultimate brand of action figures. They´re like small terminators: a metal skeleton surrounded by medical grade silicone. It can do 90% of the poses a human being can and for an artist that´s like having a small live model on your desk.
I penciled her thinking about a desert, but when I started to ink it I thought it was too empty, so I added a few defeated warriors in the back. The idea is that she´s concerned with the enemy but we can see by the smile on her face that deep inside she welcomes the challenge. Because she´s Red Sonja.

The only reference used was the Red Sonja Phicen. The background was done digitally to create the proper atmosphere. The snake is doomed, obviously.

The Devil of Hyrkania
Red Sonja is also known as she-devil with a sword so it made sense to me that she would kill a devil with a sword.
Hyrkania is the birthplace of Sonja and in Robert E. Howard universe it´s an immense nation, one of the more powerful of the Hyborian Age. In real life it was a province in the middle east, where today is the nation of Iran.
